Frequently asked questions
How does the translation work without uploading my text?
It uses Chrome Built-in AI (Gemini Nano), which runs the AI model directly on your device. Your text never leaves your browser.
Which browser do I need?
Chrome desktop (version 127+). Other browsers do not yet support Chrome Built-in AI APIs.
Why is the first translation slow?
The first time you use it, Chrome downloads the AI model (one-time, a few hundred MB). After that, translations are instant and work offline.
Which languages are supported?
English, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish. The Translator API supports more pairs than the tone-polishing API.
Why doesn't tone polishing work for Korean output?
Chrome's Rewriter API currently supports tone adjustment in English, Spanish, and Japanese. Korean translation works, but tone polishing falls back to the plain translation.
Is it free?
Yes. There are no token limits, API costs, or sign-ups. Everything runs on your device.
